New investment

New investment

The Cerrad Group launches their innovative, large-format production line with an annual production capacity of 6 million m2. In 2020, the manufacturer will be focusing on environmentally friendly solutions.

The manufacturer invested over PLN 200 million in groundbreaking technology. The newly launched pilot production line, after all tests are finished and all innovations are fully implemented, will allow for the introduction of new and unique products onto the market. It will also help to reduce the demand for raw materials, water and energy, all the meanwhile increasing productivity and decreasing impact on the natural environment.

January marked the start of operations for the line dedicated to the production of large-format, ceramic tiles in the gres technology, with the utilization of soft waste material created at the product formation stage, and one that allows for the generation of products with a much deeper structure. The project is being completed in collaboration with a scientific team from the Faculty of Materials Science and Ceramics at the University of Science and Technology (AGH) in Kraków, on the basis of the Agreement with the National Center for Research and Development.

The project required in-depth research and development analysis, primarily for the establishment of optimal parameters for the mixture composition. New and groundbreaking processing solutions were formed that now make it possible for all soft waste generated at the product formation stage to be returned and then reused to manufacture full-value ceramic tiles. These tiles retain the high physical, chemical and strength parameters of large-format ceramic tiles, including tiles that have a structure depth that for this group of raw materials, has not yet been seen on the market (even at a thickness of up to 3 mm).

– An important project such as this one, is our response to the global climate changes and the growing market demand for high quality ceramic tiles, while taking into account the pro-environment aspect of the technology. Raising the innovative potential of our company will not only allow us to achieve technological and product advantages, but it will also help us increase our production capacity from 20 to 25 million annually. In addition, thanks to the expansion of the plant, over 120 new employment opportunities will be created, which for our region and Starachwowice itself, is of great added value – comments Paweł Bąk, CEO of the Cerrad Group.

Cerrad received funding for the construction of the line from the European Union, under the Intelligent Development Operational Program – “Fast Track” competition for the sum of PLN 49,363,317.43. The total value of the project exceeded PLN 200,000,000.00.

Confirmation that Cerrad focuses on innovation and the expansion of its product offer, while at the same time being a socially responsible enterprise, is evident through the other projects that the company is involved in.

We are currently in the process of completing a few investment projects with a total worth exceeding PLN 530 million, most of which are co-financed by public funds. The projects in question have been recognized by such institutions and entrepreneurial support organizations as: the National Center for Research and Development, the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management and the Ministry of Technology and Development under the Polish Investment Zone program. This is mainly due to the fact that they are innovative, environmentally friendly and create new employment opportunitiessays Robert Cholewiński, EU Project Manager at Cerrad.

The company’s plans include many more investments, with each one aimed at the implementation of new technologies in the production of ceramic tiles, while having a positive effect on the natural environment. Let’s hope that the current situation related to the extremely difficult political situation in Ukraine, and the impact it may have on all functioning industries, will allow the manufacturer to continue on with the chosen strategy.

The beginning of a collaboration

From September 27 to October 1, the eyes of the entire ceramic industry are turned towards the Italian city of Bologna. The Cersaie International Ceramics and Bathroom Furnishings Fair is the most important industry event of its kind in Europe. For the duration of five days, the best manufacturers in the industry present their products, set trends, draw inspiration and gather opinions.

It was Cerrad’s 6th time presenting at the fair in Bologna.  This time, several dozen gres tile collections were presented at a showcase area, measuring an impressive 315 m2. During this year’s event, the new Cerrad and La Mania Home project concept was also introduced.

The brands began collaborating at the initiative of Aleksander Przetakiewicz, the president of La Mania.
I have been looking for a partner that had the same business approach as we do.  Having met Cerrad, I immediately saw how much we have in common, for instance our swiftness in taking action or the shared understanding of success. – commented Przetakiewicz.

He further added that business is his passion, and that he finds inspiration in everything and that it’s from there that his ambitious ventures are born, such as the collaboration with a ceramic tile manufacturer for instance.

It would seem that the construction industry and the fashion industry constitute two separate worlds. But it turns out that by bringing different people together into one project team, you can achieve excellent results, as evidenced by the products created during this joint venture. – mentioned Pawel Bąk, Chief Executive Officer, Cerrad.

JOANNA PRZETAKIEWICH, AMBASSADOR FOR THE CERRAD X LA MANIA HOME PROJECT

The ambassador for the project is Joanna Przetakiewich, businesswoman, creative director and founder of the La Mania fashion line, who during a special presentation for the new collections spoke to the visitors at Cersaie about inspiration, art and freedom from the ordinary and daily routines. She also pointed out the impact, that the joining of the worlds of fashion and design have on establishing global trends.

–  Interiors, just like fashion, are an expression of a person’s character, they awake emotions and inspire us to act.  With an interior, with its energy, we can change our life for the better – said Przetakiewicz.

Modern Cogeneration System

The realization of the project will positively impact as well as improve the quality of air in the region, reducing the risk of potentially developing respiratory diseases. It will also lessen the production plant’s effect on global warming.

The main goal of the project is to improve Cerrad’s energy efficiency by building a high-efficiency cogeneration system to generate heat and electricity. Another main objective is to also improve the condition of the natural environment by reducing the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere, in particular carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, dust and ash. By helping to improve the air condition in the region, the health condition for the residents will also improve (long-term), because the risk of developing respiratory diseases will be reduced. The project will also have a positive impact on limiting climate change related to global warming.

– I am very pleased that I get be involved in the gas cogeneration project from the very beginning. High-efficiency gas cogeneration is one of the key elements in the implementation of Cerrad’s sustainable development strategy, thanks to which, Cerrad will be able to maintain a high-quality of products at a competitive price despite the upward trends in electricity prices. The project received support in the form of a grant from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in the amount of almost PLN 10 million – says Maciej Matter, Energy Efficiency Manager at Cerrad.

The cogeneration unit will produce heat needed for the spray dryers. The generated electricity will cover the needs for 3 parts of the plant.

A’Design Award for the v-shape Mattina tiles

The answer to the needs of designers and architects was the creation of our gres tiles meticulously imitating wood, and thanks to which, we can now finish a full step with the use of just one element.   V-shape treads were created using special technology, and are now included in our wall and floor tile portfolio, giving us the possibility to create a coherent and harmonious design when dealing with, for instance, a two-level living room, hall or a stylish terrace.  During the tile creation process, the following were extremely important to us: modern, ecological design, functionality and versatility.  Cerrad is one of only two manufacturers in the world that uses this technology.

Stratic jasnyszary taras apartamentThe Ragaya collection, which combines the warmth and elegance of wood with the durability and functionality of stoneware, will be a fantastic alternative to gres tiles in shades of gray.  Wooden motifs are timeless and they suit many styles – thanks to which we can be sure that the arrangement in the garden and terrace space will present itself perfectly for years.

Modern trends also favor the larger format terrace tiles, which reference geometric designs inspired by minimalism.  Collections Crafter, Testo and Tauro perfectly fit into the criteria of modern trends, thanks to which you can create chic symmetric or asymmetric borders or edges separated by vegetation, or a homogenous terrace floor guaranteeing utmost comfort during installation and usage.

The natural color palette ranging from dark nero to the lighter silver and gris shades, will provide a multitude of arrangement possibilities.

Concrete is an inseparable element of the industrial décor style as it perfectly highlights the charm of minimalistic arrangements, where among the simplicity of it all, it actually becomes a very characteristic adornment.  The universal character of the tiles from the Testo collection allows you to combine it with various materials (but it pairs perfectly with gravel and vegetation) to create amazing designs.

Personal tastes generally dictate the look of a fashionable garden.  However, functionality and current trends should also be key factors.  Creating such a space can seem challenging, but not when using the wood-like tiles from the Tauro collection which help you achieve whatever the desired effect may be.  They work perfectly when used on paths and in recreational spaces of your garden.

Changing trends made gardens, outdoor paths and terraces an integral part of any home design project, and their appearance is of great importance when looking at these projects as a whole.  The newest 2.0 tile collections from Cerrad are a fantastic solution, as they are equally practical as they are fashionable.

Prime Minister visits Cerrad

Cerrad is an example of Polish success here, and on the international market likewise – said Mateusz Morawiecki, head of the Polish government, at a recent press conference.  Mr. Morawiecki visited Cerrad headquarters in Starachowice on February 4th of this year, during which time topics related to the economy, support for entrepreneurs, the company’s operation during the pandemic and future investments were discussed.

The press conference, which was attended by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Cerrad Board Members, focused mainly on innovative projects and investments that currently make the Cerrad Group one of the leading manufacturers of ceramic tiles globally.

Wizyta Premiera Morawieckiego w firmieCerrad is an example of Polish success here, and on the international market likewise.  New investments allow for greater production, which in turn translates into exports – admitted Prime Minister Morawiecki and added that he’s proudly observing how these small factories in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship grow into large companies that compete with some of the biggest ones in Europe.

Despite the existing reality caused by the pandemic, Cerrad managed to adapt to the changes by continually looking for new and effective solutions, while consistently implementing the chosen strategy.  The year 2020 was a time of uncertainty and many unanswered questions. We were also forced to shut down several manufacturing plants.  Fortunately, the government came to our aid. We were able to use the ani-crisis safeguards created for economic standstills and for keeping work places open.  In the end, we received 3,5 million zlotych, which not only helped to maintain employment, but to also increase it significantly – stated Dawid Cegłowski, a Cerrad Board Member, in thanks to the government for its support.

I’m glad that Cerrad was able to take advantage of the National Center for Research and Development funds for modernization purposes, from the financial safeguards for employment support, while at the same time helping and supporting hospitals in Starachowice and Radom. This sort of entrepreneurial attitude is a show of solidarity during these challenging pandemic times – stated Mateusz Morawiecki.

The prime minister promised further support for Polish entrepreneurs so they could help in rebuilding the Polish market as quickly as it is possible.  – It is crucial for Polish workers and companies that the return to pre-pandemic state of affairs takes place this year still.  It is possible.  I believe it as I look at the actual economy here in Starachowice – emphasized the prime minister.

Premier Mateusz Morawiecki w fabryce CerradThe prime minister noted that the coronavirus pandemic is altering the global economy along with the supply chains, but sooner or later it will come to an end.  – Together, we will rebuild the Polish economy – he assured during his speech.

The prime minister also stressed that the latest data from the European Commission showed that Poland experienced one of the lowest recessions in the European Union during the pandemic. The head of government also argued that 2021 will in fact be very good for the Polish economy.

Cerrad is hoping and striving for the same, as it takes advantage of development opportunities to achieve long-term goals, and thanks to which is now holding one of the leading spots in the ranks for the most dynamically developing manufacturing companies in Europe.  The company is planning further investments and implementations of new and improved technologies in the production of ceramic tiles.

Cerrad with a new innovative technology

Cerrad is investing over 26 million euros in groundbreaking technology.  An innovative and ecological pilot line for the production of large-format stoneware tiles with a deep structure is being built in Starachowice.  The manufacturer is also focusing on environmentally friendly solutions.

Thanks to innovative solutions, the construction of a special line dedicated to the production of large-format ceramic tiles in stoneware technology is currently in the works.  This line will allow for the utilization of the soft waste material created at the product formation stage and it will also aid in the manufacturing of products with a much deeper structure.  The designed production line will help to introduce new and unique products onto the market.  In addition, the technology will help to reduce the demand for raw materials, water and energy, and it will increase the production economy while at the same time reducing the company’s environmental footprint.

The pilot line will be located alongside the production plant in Starachowice.  Cerrad announced a tender for the selection of machinery and equipment suppliers in the second half of December 2020.

Despite the existing reality during this time of the pandemic, we find new and effective solutions, while persistently putting into action our chosen development strategy, which is based on the further implementation of ambitious projects – declares Paweł Bąk, Chairman of the Board at Cerrad.  This unique on a European scale, eco-friendly line, is proof that Cerrad focuses on innovation and the expansion of its product portfolio, while at the same time remaining a socially responsible enterprise – adds the Chairman of the Board.

Cerrad successfully combines the world of science with the company’s practices.  By working together with the AGH University of Science and Technology, Cerrad is able to complete research and developmental projects recognized by various public institutions and receives considerable subsidies from European Funds for their completion.  – We focus our attention on the expansion of our own developmental base by also taking advantage of our domestic, scientific achievements from the recognized industry experts, creating innovative solutions aiding in the production processes and in protecting the natural environment – comments Robert Chlowiński, Director of EU Projects at Cerrad.  The National Center for Research and Development as well as the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management are amongst some of the institutions that help to finance the companies’ activities.

The production start date is planned for the beginning of 2022.  Cerrad will receive a 40% subsidy from the European Regional Development Fund under the Intelligent Development 2014-2020 Operational Program co-financed by the European Union.  The project is being completed as part of the “Fast Track” competition run by the National Center for Research and Development.

Cerrad is supporting hospitals in the battle with the coronavirus epidemic

Cerrad will donate 100,000 PLN to the Starachowice District Health Care Center, which was converted into an infectious hospital for the treatment of coronavirus patients. 50,000 PLN of financial aid will also be donated to the Dr. Tytus Chałbiński Radom Specialized Care Hospital, which is also currently functioning as an infectious hospital.
In addition, the Mazowiecki Specialized Care Hospital in Józefów will receive 50,000 PLN worth of much needed personal protective equipment, which will include FFP3 masks and protective suits. The from and method of delivering these donations was decided and agreed upon with the directors of each individual institution.
– We all feel the effects of this epidemic, both social as well as economic, and this also applies to our industry. Regardless of the challenges we have to face in this difficult and unusual situation, it’s important we stand in solidarity. Medical services are on the frontlines fighting this horrible virus, while at the same time providing help to patients afflicted with other illnesses. We decided to support the hospitals in Starachowice and Radom in this fight that has affected us all, by offering them financial and material aid, to the best of our abilities – commented Halina Bąk, Cerrad CSR board representative.
– Each one of us can contribute to fighting the epidemic by doing things like limiting direct contact with others, following the established guidance, orders and bans, as well as respecting and not abusing the lifting and easing of some, of the enforced restrictions. With the proposed gradual opening of the economy, it does not mean that that the situation is under control, but rather that the individuals and society now have to increase their alertness and vigilance in day to day activities. We have to be cautious and ready for further progression of infections. The attitude and readiness of people and companies that are willing to help and share their resources during these difficult times is extremely comforting. We would like to thank Cerrad, and the other donors for the much-needed help – commented Grzegorz Kaleta, director of the hospital in Starachowice.
Why did Cerrad decide to help and support the medical facilities in Starachowice and Radom? Because we have very close ties to each of the cities. Starachowice is the location of the company headquarters and its production plants and facilities, whereas many of the company’s employees come from nearby Radom, which was the location of Cerrad’s first factory before moving to Starachowice.

Cevisama 3-7 February
